FAQs

WHAT DOES SOMASANA MEAN?

The name SOMASANA is a merging of different cultures into one. It is a place of intersection that reflects and honors the path that brings me here to this moment. SOMASANA, in its most literal translation, comes from the Swahili phrase soma sana meaning “to read a lot.” Soma in Latin means body, and Sana is the conjugated form of Sanar, “to heal” in Spanish. Soma is the corporeal vessel into which the Soul and Spirit can reside. SOMASANA encapsulates the notion that by learning to read the body, in its entirety, that is to include the spirit and soul, we are able to heal multi-dimensionally. My hope is that we can journey together to bring authenticity, love, light and healing into ourselves, each other and our planet.

WHAT Should I Expect for my Acupuncture session?

For your first Acupuncture session, we will go over your intake in-depth, and depending on what we are working on, it will inform our subsequent treatments together. Be sure to wear lose and comfortable clothing that is easily moveable to allow for Acupuncture point location and placement. Make sure to eat no less than an hour before beginning the treatment. Eating too close to the appointment is not advised. Additionally, the use of substances such as Marijuana is not recommended as it directly alters your pulse which is a key feature for understanding your case and your internal condition.

do the acupuncture needles hurt?

You would be surprised at how often this question comes up and how many people are afraid of needles. The answer is no! Acupuncture needles are much smaller than those you are used to at the doctor’s office and therefore limit how much pain you feel. You might feel a quick passing prick upon insertion of the needle but that’s it. Most people often comment that they are not even aware of the needles. For those who are more sensitive, we use a breathing technique to help you relax before continuing.

What AM i supposed to feel during and after an acupuncture session?

Acupuncture is a highly subjective experience. It is common however to feel really good or also fatigued after your first Acupuncture experience. Depending on your unique case, the results are different. You might not have the words to describe your experience, or maybe you are able to express it in-detail and in-depth. It really is dependent on the individual.

Additionally, it is also normal to feel absolutely nothing. This is not a sign that the treatment was ineffective rather, it was much more subtle for you to notice. In such cases, outwards feeling of the Acupuncture sessions might be noticeable only after additional compounding Acupuncture treatements.

I strongly recommend allowing time after the Acupuncture session to integrate within yourself. Writing down your experiences might be helpful for long-term processing.

how is spirit ACUPUNCTURE different than other acupucnture practices?

At SOMASANA, we are trying to understand you not just physiologically but also emotionally, mentally and spiritually. We are interested in the interplay between matter and energy. As such our Acupuncture sessions are tailored to include the mind, body and spirit. This could be mean that your Acupuncture session would include energy work, mediation, breathing exercises, sound healing, an in-depth discussion, whatever it is, we intuitively do what we feel to be in your highest good at that time.

At SOMASANA, we believe that you are your best caretaker and healer. We co-create and hold space for you in order for healing to occur. Our work is about creating community and uplifting consciousness with each individual so that they too can uplift and raise consciousness within their communities no matter how far small or wide the reach.

WHAt is healing alchemy and how does it work?

Healing Alchemy is about the work of inner transformation and healing in order for us to live more harmonious, love-full, joyous lives. In the Healing Alchemy sessions, we explore the wounds and patterns that dictate our lives and work to transform and release them through energy work. The context of energy work is vast and situation dependent. Healing Alchemy can include clearing and purifying energy centers, working with: the elements, ascended masters and angels, and mediumship and channeling. The sessions are unique in that they are instructed by what has pressing urgency to be healed and how that correlates to your present life and time.

In Healing Alchemy no two sessions are the same but overacting themes might stay the same for some periods of time. Experiences can be those of elation, deep grief and everything in between. Energy work is nonlinear and therefore keeping an open mind an open heart can serve as an antidote to the experience of releasing the old and stepping into the embodiment of being. One thing can be for sure, change will be imminent.

what is embodied movement?

Embodied Movement is energy in action. Spirit Acupuncture and Healing Alchemy are more abstract ethereal experiences, and Embodied Movement is the connection to the earth, a deeply rooting practice that grounds us into our physical body. Embodied Movement is to remind us that we are both celestial and earthly, and through the practice of movement, we can interlink the two. Embodied Movement is not concerned with how we look in movement or what our movements look like, rather, it seeks to help us release ourselves from our narratives and egos so as to feel the expansion of our divinity embodied.

Through music and some guided cues, Embodied is a physical meditational journey to help us connect us to our bodies and the languages it encompasses. It is recommended to where lose fitting clothing to allow full expression of movement. Additionally, it is not recommended to right before an Embodied Movement session. Eating and an hour to two hours before would be ideal.

what is sound healing and what are it’s benefits?

The use of sound as a tool for healing is an ancient practice found across all cultures of humanity. In reality, sound is ubiquitous and we consciously or subconsciously attune and entrain to all the sounds around us. Whether it’s cars passing by, the hum of the refrigerator, birds in the morning hours, sound is all around us and it influences our vibration and frequency whether we are aware of it or not. Sound quickly changes our brain wave frequencies dependent on the tonal arrangement and the harmony of the notes. Healing sounds can help us transition from a Beta frequency of fight/flight into a more Theta frequency of Rest and Peace.

Sound Healing is a powerful tool to facilitate the quieting of the mind and the opening of the heart energy centers. The more we are able to lead our lives from a heart centered space, the more we are able to give and receive love. Sound Healing is a gentle and yet powerful medicine that can help us transition swiftly and tenderly into heart-centered living.

What is the sacred circle?

Sacred Circle is an offering meant to create community with other women healers. It’s for ALL women who are long-time practitioners in their field, those who are just beginning their practices, or those who are curious and dabbling in the healing arts. It is meant as a space to deepen our connections to spirit, each other and ourselves. The hope and goal is that it provides a safe space to be vulnerable, to openly share our struggles and triumphs and help each other in our own journeys of embodied being. We hope to create many Sacred Circles with women from all over the world and to create community and hold spaces for light to emerge and shine radiantly within ourselves, with each other and for our planet.
